FAQs
Vibrocoring is a technique for collecting core samples of underwater sediments & soils. The technique is based on a vibrating mechanism or 'Vibrocorer' which drives an attached 'core' into the sediment. Once the core is captured the vibrocorer is turned off & with the help of hoisting equipment, the core is withdrawn.
McLennans Diving Service provides superior Vibrocoring services and can deliver solutions to match your needs.
MDS has undertaken many large and small pile repair projects and Denso installation projects. MDS has been an approved Denso applicator for 15 years and has developed a close relationship with Denso.
MDS has developed some simple but effective controls to ensure that the underlying material is prepared correctly and that the Denso is installed correctly the first time. When the product has been installed correctly we have never witnessed corrosion corrosion occurring even 25 years later.
MDS authorized ship inspectors with Lloyds, ABS, DNV. We are also the preferred contractor for Thales Australia at Garden Island.
Our staff have the knowledge and equipment to respond to any type of underwater ship maintenance such as;
- In water survey;
- Dry docking;
- Hull cleaning;
- Crack detection and repair;
- Hull thickness testing;
- Propeller polishing;
- Anode repair and replacement;
- Underwater welding.

MDS services: *Vibrocoring, *Denso, *Ship inspections, repairs and cleaning, *Contaminated water work ,*Potable water work, *Broco cutting, *Marine environmental surveys, *ROV operations.
Our principal clients are major government corporations such as the Port Kembla Port Corporation, Sydney Water, and Sydney Ports Corporation and also major civil engineering companies such as McConnell Dowell, BHP Billiton, UKG Group, Transfield, Thales, Ward Civil, and Worley Parsons.
Marine environmental surveys: MDS has been involved in many marine environmental surveys. While MDS are not specialist marine environmental scientists, our experience in all things marine often enables us to enhance the productivity of marine surveys.
MDS has the capability and experience to dive in all types of liquid environments and gas spaces. Often we are called on to dive in sewerage plants and mine tailing dams. For this work we have our own internal procedure which complies with the US Navy Contaminated Water Diving Code of Practice. Some of the specialist tasks we have performed in contaminated water are: - Construction of double isolation barriers in the live flow - Removal and replacement of penstocks - Recovery of agitator
MDS maintain two full sets of âœcleanâ dive gear. By clean we mean, the gear has only ever been used in potable water. Our clients can be assured that if MDS dives in a drinking water reservoir that there will be no contamination introduced to the water supply. Examples of potable water work include: -Installation of chlorination dosing points in reservoirs -Replacement of agitator pumps in reservoirs -Dredging of silt from reservoirs -Installation of valves and gauging systems
MDS have many years of experience in cutting all types of steel and non-ferrous metals underwater. We maintain two 50m long Broco set ups ready for immediate use. Our most challenging Broco job to date has been the connection of the North Head STP hydro-generating pipeline into the noose outfall tunnel. This required us to cut a 2.5m diameter oval shaped hole into the main sewerage pipeline for the northern half of Sydney. The cut was made through 1 inch steel.
MDS owns and operated an Ocean Modules V4 ROV. This is an inspection class ROV which can be rapidly deployed for inspections of assets where diver intervention is not required or the situation presents dangers that we do not wish to expose the diver to. It is especially suited for inspection of intake and outlet pipelines, live reservoirs and hazardous environments such as collapsed structures and shipwrecks.
