Is there a difference in quality versus cost?
As with anything nowadays quality is determined by cost. The better-quality tyres embrace the latest in safety and technology and will offer the consumer better handling, better weather performance and last longer than their cheaper counterparts. Initially, it might seem that you are spending more at the time of purchase but with today's advances in technology; you will find that fuel consumption is lessened due to materials used in the construction of the tyres to lower the rolling resistance.
Can you clean your tyres?
Don’t forget to keep your tyres clean! Another important aspect of tyre care, not only will it keep your car looking great overall, it will also prevent the exposed sidewall rubber from cracking or checking.
How do I know when my tyres are worn and should be replaced?
Every tyre has tread wear indicators in between the tread and generally across the whole width of the tyre at certain points. When any part of the tread is level with this indicator it means the tyre has already reached its legal limit and should be replaced.
What is the benefit of keeping the correct tyre pressure?
Keeping the correct tyre pressure in your tyres is another important aspect of tyre care. Not only will they take longer to wear out, but they’ll also improve your handling and your fuel efficiency – all important benefits for car owners. You can adjust your tyre pressure at your nearest petrol station. We recommend getting into the habit as quickly as possible – it could make a huge difference to your tyre care.
Why do your tyres & wheels need balancing?
Maintaining the tyre balance on your vehicle is critical to getting the most out of the tyres you’ve invested in. Not only does correct tyre balance ensure a smoother ride, it helps to minimise tyre wear. You can adjust your tyre pressure at your nearest petrol station. We recommend getting into the habit as quickly as possible – it could make a huge difference to your tyre care.
How can you check your tyres?
Make sure you’re inspecting your tyres regularly to avoid any potential issues. What are "Run Flat Tyres"?
Some car manufacturers have started to equip their vehicles with run flat tyres, also known as mobility tyres. These tyres do as the name suggest - they are able to continue to run safely in the event of sudden or gradual deflation. When fitted with run flat tyres your vehicle can continue moving despite a loss of tyre pressure and is able to function even when there is little or no pressure.
How do I know how much to spend on tyres?
The old adage "you get what you pay for" could have been invented for tyres choice. Calculate the total price for your tyre purchase and divide that by the kilometres of service. This will give you the cost per kilometre. You'll quickly see that the better tyres are, the better value.
How do I find what the size is of my tyre?
The size of the tyre is always on the sidewall of the tyre. The attached image (under Products and Services) shows what it looks like and what the numbers mean.
Why do I have different tyre pressures in my family car to my work vehicle?
This depends on the size of the tyre and the vehicle. Generally speaking the lower the sidewall profile, the more air pressure required to make the tyre work more efficiently. A tyre with correct air pressure will wear evenly, disperse water better and ultimately the vehicle uses less fuel as the engine is not working as hard as it does when the tyre is under inflated.
How do I know what tyre to choose for my car?
Tyre choice comes down to research and knowing what you need Selecting the right tyres o meet your needs & budget is something that can be daunting. Follow these seven tips. 1, Determine When You Need Tyres. 2, Determine How Many Tyres You Need. 3, Determine the Tyre Size. 4, Analyse Your Driving Habits. 5, Buy the Best Quality You Can Afford. 6, Consider Performance and Speed Ratings. 7, Consider Tyre Type for more information see https://www.tyrepower.com.au/tyres/tyre-tips/tyre-choice/.
Why should I rotate my car tyres?
Tyre fitting and rotation are essential to tyre maintenance. Rotating your tyres periodically is an essential part of tyre maintenance. The main purpose of regularly rotating your tyres is to achieve more uniform wear for all tyres. If no rotation period or pattern is to be found in your owner's documentation, rotate your tyres at least every 10,000kms and follow one of the patterns suggested below. for more information https://www.tyrepower.com.au/tyres/tyre-care/tyre-rotation/.
Why are my tyres wearing at a different rate?
Tyre rotations are recommended every 10,000 kilometres. The reason for this is front wheel drive cars will wear its front tyres much faster than its rear tyres. The same applies to rear -wheel-drive cars wearing its rear tyres faster. The 'driving' tyres basically need to have a rest from doing all the work! 4WD vehicles generally have the same rule but the rotation sequence is slightly different.
When are tyres considered not roadworthy?
Tyres are considered to be un-roadworthy at 1.6mm minimum tread depth. In wet conditions 3.0mm or less tread means a significant loss of wet traction due to shallower grooves and channels.
Should I get my wheels balanced?
Wheel balancing is crucial to the smooth running of today's modern vehicle. Wheel imbalance can cause uneven tyre wear and excessive stress and strain on suspension components which lead towards premature and costly repairs. It is highly recommended that the balance of your wheels gets regularly checked in conjunction with rotation and alignment of the vehicle at 10,000km intervals.
How often should you rotate your tyres?
When was the last time you had your tyres rotated? As a general rule, you should rotate them every 5,000km to ensure you’re giving your tyres the appropriate care. By rotating your tyres, you’re helping to prevent uneven wearing, generating a long return on your tyre investment. At Tyrepower, our friendly team can organise your vehicle’s tyre rotation.
Where can you find the tyre size?
You can find your tyre size in your vehicle’s owner manual. The tyre size information can also be found on your tyre placard, often inside the driver's door jam. The tyre placard will state the tyre size, as well as the recommended tyre pressures. Alternatively, tyres have a code on their sidewall. As an example, the tyre size or code will be 205/65R15 95H.
Will a wheel alignment help my tyres last longer?
Your vehicle's tracking is very important as an incorrect alignment can cause severe wear patterns to a tyre. It can also affect the vehicle's handling. If your vehicle's alignment is ignored, your new tyres can be severely damaged in a very short amount of time.
