FAQschevron down

Do we need council approval to remove a tree in Pakenham?

Depending on overlays such as a Significant Landscape Overlay, Vegetation Protection Overlay or Green Wedge Zone, a permit may be needed. We guide you through the requirements, supply supporting arborist reports where appropriate and help you lodge accurate paperwork. Approval decisions rest with the council, so we focus on clear evidence, correct mapping and compliant recommendations.

Do you remove any tree?

Safeguard Tree Services safely remove trees of all sizes in residential and commercial settings across Pakenham and south-east Melbourne. We respect Victorian electrical safety rules and do not operate inside regulated no-go zones around high-voltage lines. Where private service wires are present, we use spotters, maintain mandated clearances and may arrange a planned shutdown if required.

Can you work near powerlines and private service wires?

We follow the Blue Book electric-line clearance rules and mandated approach distances. Near private service lines we use spotters, insulated techniques and request planned shutdowns when required. We do not operate inside no-go zones for live high-voltage infrastructure. Safety and compliance determine the method, whether climbing, EWP or, if absolutely necessary, a crane.

What does stump grinding include and how deep do you grind?

We grind until we reach soil at the machine-limited maximum depth discussed at quoting. The ground material forms a mulch backfill that we rake and level; minor settling is normal for a few days. Visible surface roots can be ground by agreement. We maintain stand-offs from fences, slabs and services to avoid damage, and where underground plans are unclear we can arrange private service locators at cost. Our tracked grinder generally needs about 950 mm access.

How do you price tree removal and pruning?

We usually provide a fixed price after inspection. Price drivers include tree size and condition, access to the chipper, method (climber or EWP), proximity to assets or powerlines, traffic management needs, green-waste volume and site complexity. For pruning, canopy density, species and the number of trees also influence cost. We keep pricing transparent so you can compare options like pruning, cable bracing or full removal.

Are you qualified and insured?

Yes. Our team includes AQF Level 3 & 5 arborists for climbing and EWP work, and our consulting is prepared and/or reviewed by suitably qualified arborists. We hold Public Liability insurance to $20M and current Workers’ Compensation. We prune to AS 4373 and protect retained trees on development sites per AS 4970, and we assess risk using ISA TRAQ methodology.
