Malpractice

I’m very disappointed I. This practice. I started attending here over a year ago when I moved to the area. I take a schedule 8 medication, which is difficult to get whenever I have a new GP. For that entire year, they were monitoring my dosage and helping me to make sure I was on track with my condition.

However, 3 months before my medication ran out I let my GP know. In the past, my GP only had to ring a specific number and give my details which they would check in the registered approved customers and give a script authority. This process had apparently changed, which is fine, they just needed all my documentation from my specialist at the Princess Alexandra Hospital. They told me to fill out a form and they would fax it off.

Fast forward to when I have a week of medication left, I let my GP know I required a script. They told me they never received any documentation. I let the front counter know and they said it was MY responsibility to make sure my documentation came in. I DID. I signed a form! I can’t magically see your system to see if it arrived and you didn’t tell me anything was wrong! The practice did not do their due diligence and follow up when the paperwork was not received.

I went to the hospital to request a hard copy and presented them with my ID. They informed me for legal reasons I had to fill out a form and it could take up to 6 weeks to receive in the post, however a GP can request the information via fax and they have a strict 24 hour turnaround. I was extremely frustrated at this point. While I was still there I sat on the phone to my GP and talked to the hospital staff. The admin at this GP had not checked their fax number and were sending my information to a landline! (Heaven forbid it were another fax number and my information was going to who knows where!!) So they said they resent it through to the correct number.

I went in the next day, no documentation again. In fact the fax had failed, but no one called me to advise even though I had a scheduled appointment that afternoon.

After more than a week of battling the GP I was angry, upset, and long out of my medication and my health was going down the toilet. I was barely able to function. I decided to make the 4 hour round trip to my old GP who gave me my last script however because of the changed system they also had to request the documents and offered to fax the script to my local pharmacist. This was all done in less than 24 hours!

QLD Medical Doctors admin, while friendly are lazy and incompetent. They try to push the work and blame onto the patients who don’t have the right to the information the practice needs.

AVOID if you need anything other than basic care (medical certificate, basic checkup).
