FAQs

  • How often should I get my air conditioner checked?

Once a year. Preferably before Summer starts. This is especially true of ducted units because they draw much more air than the split type of air conditioner mounted on the wall. I would recommend that residential ducted units be service twice a year, once before summer and again just before winter.

  • Doesn't it just need more gas?

There are a number of reasons an air conditioner / refrigeration system will not work, gas being just one of them. Sometimes it can be a matter of finding where the gas has escaped from and then repairing the leak site before the unit can be used normally. Other times an electrical fault can cause the unit to malfunction. Either case you should always get a licensed and insured tradesman to check your system.

  • I only use my air conditioner a few times a year so it does not need servicing? or I don't want to waste electricity so why should I run it?

Like cars air conditioners need to go for a good run every month or so, regardless of the weather. If air conditioners are left unused for long periods of time when they are then asked to operate, they can run into difficulties and even seize up. I recommend that you turn on and run your air conditioner every month for at least an hour or so, just to keep things lubricated, this will not fully stop any issues, but you may prevent some just by doing this.
