General Info

To build safe and healthy communities by reducing the impact of addiction on individuals, families, carers and communities.

Odyssey House New South Wales was founded in 1977 by Sydney businessman, Walter McGrath, following the death of his son from a heroin overdose. From humble beginnings, Odyssey House NSW has since grown to become one of Australia’s largest and most successful rehabilitation services; over the past 40 years we have helped more than 35,000 people turn their lives around.

Odyssey House NSW free Community Services provide treatment, counselling, education, and aftercare support to those who have been affected by alcohol and other drugs. Our experienced team offers free individual and group counselling, support, information and education. Our Community Services have programs specialising in Alcohol and Other Drugs Recovery; Mental Health Support; Parent Support Groups; and Family Support Groups.

The Odyssey House NSW Residential Rehabilitation program is open to anyone suffering from an alcohol and other drug addiction. The program aims to empower individuals and give them the self-confidence to become contributing members of society through the therapeutic community model of treatment. Our Residential Rehabilitation program includes Withdrawal Services; educational support through the Progress Learning Centre; and the Parents and Children's Program.

MERIT is for eligible defendants who appear at participating Local Courts. The program targets defendants with a demonstrable drug problem who are eligible and suitable for release on bail and who are motivated to engage in treatment. The program focuses on treating their drug problem in isolation from legal matters prior to any pleas being made with the adjournment of court matters until the completion of the program. We are responsible for provision of the MERIT Program at Waverley Court, NSW.
