Manly Plumbing have worked for me for years. They have handled emergencies, routine plumbing and roofing with good sense and professional know how. Strongly recommend.

Their ’service call’ of $120 includes ONLY driving to your place (in my case from Surrey Hills to Kew East) and NO time (unlike other tradies where the service call usually includes approx. 30 minutes of time). They bill from when they have parked (not when they arrive at your door, not the same) and charge $25 for every 15 minutes. What they should say is that their absolute minimum charge is $145 (including 15 minutes work) for one plumber, but they don’t when you call for a quote. They parked on the street and a good 40-50 meters away in spite of there being enough space for a big truck in front of my place. I soon realised why - they walk back and forth to their van at a very leisurely pace for every single item needed. Expect 15 minutes to get a ladder and at least 5 minutes for each item. Expect them also to make lengthy private calls while ‘on the job’, standing around and chatting. Living in a double-story townhouse I expected to be quoted for 2 plumbers and this was not the case during the initial call. However, two of them turned up and you get billed for that, even though that was not quoted. In terms of dealing with them, one of them was approachable, the other one just plain rude.
I received a bill $230 higher than I had anticipated based on the initial phone call and quote. The invoice arrived nearly 3.5 months after the repair, when most people wouldn’t quite remember the details. Because the whole thing was fishy from the start (parking outside driveway and standing around, rather than arriving at my door) I took notes throughout the interaction (and yes, they did charge for standing in the street). The invoice only gives you a few lines and is not itemised. Apparently they don’t have to, so like everything they work with minimum standards. Judging by the fluent rudeness, continuous talking over and attempts at gaslighting by the owner when I called him querying the invoice, he has a lot of experience with these calls. In summary, expect to deal with unpleasant staff and double what you think you will pay.
