Our friendly staff and experienced doctors are here to help you, with our practice providing a wide variety of medical services.
At West Tamar Health, doctors do home visits when it is very difficult for the sick person to come to the surgery. We all have our own regular visits which include severely disabled and infirm patients who cannot leave their home. We ask that patients supervise their children whilst in the surgery and if possible do not leave them unattended.
West Tamar Health is a family medical centre in the Launceston Suburb of Riverside, located in the newly developed Windsor Community Precinct. We're a professional practice, priding ourselves on providing the highest level of care to our patients. West Tamar Health is a teaching practice.

Do you provide medical certificates?
Medical certificates are legal documents. They are available only if you are present for a consultation with one of our doctors, we cannot issue medical certificates without you actually seeing the doctor, and we are not permitted to issue certificates retrospectively.
Do you provide interpreter service?
On site interpreters can be booked in advance (10 days' notice needs to be given). Phone interpreters can be arranged at the same time as your appointment please let the reception staff knows when you arrive.
What if the patient's information is changed?
Patient information is of the utmost importance that we have your latest up to date medical details, please inform the reception staff when you change address, phone number, mobile number, medicare & concession card details. It is very difficult to notify patients if we need to change appointment times when these details are incorrect.
Do you offer repeat prescriptions service?
Repeat prescriptions, (without the patient being seen) will be done, but only if this has been agreed to by the individual doctor and only if the last consultation was no longer than three months before (there are exceptions to this and some medications may be repeated beyond this time limit). We require 48 hours' notice for repeat prescriptions. A fee of $5.00 is charged for repeat prescriptions.

Do you offer discounts?
We offer discounts for Health Care Card holders and pensioners. We would ask that all patient's read the information sheet that is available at the reception desk regarding all costs associated with your health care.
Do you provide confidential services?
Yes, all patient's consultations and records are kept strictly confidential and cannot be discussed or reproduced. It is the policy of this practice to maintain security of personal health information at all times and to ensure that this information is only available to authorised members of staff.

The Dr I saw spent 20 minutes on unrelated matters, even asking about a broken bone I had 40 years ago, yet rushed through my real reason for my visit. He ignored my discomfort, would not give me a medical certificate, despite the fact I was stone deaf that day and unable to work at my teaching job. He was condescending too. I spoke with others who had had the misfortune of dealing with him and they said the same. They never returned to him and I also refused to book a follow up visit.
This is a shame as all reports about this medical service and other drs are all positive. This one chap simply loved making irrelevant notes on the computer and not servicing the issues at hand. I have no idea why. One week later my issue has still not been resolved and I had to book another visit elsewhere, for what should have been a routine problem.
