      The Spirit is a family owned and operated whale watching business established in 1986. With over 29 years in the Hervey Bay whale watching industry we provide first class cruising and comfort and know what it takes to make your whale watch experience an awesome one.

      The Spirit of Hervey Bay offer 3/4 day (includes buffet lunch) or 1/2 day (school holidays) cruises from late July to end of October. This beautiful vessel has so much room to move around, with no overcrowding. Fantastic features include the spiritual Underwater Viewing Rooms, an amazing Waterline Viewing Platform for those extra close encounters and a hydrophone to listen the whales melodic songs. Free extras: whale DVD, WIFI, courtesy bus transfers plus a friendly, highly professional crew.

      What do I need to bring on the boat?

      Camera, video, sunscreen, polaroid sunglasses, hat, binoculars, jacket, flat shoes and money for drinks and souvenirs.


      What should I wear on board the boat?

      To ensure your comfort and safety we recommend flat shoes, and something warm to throw on in case it gets cool. You may also consider something to throw on in case of a rain shower. We have seen that sometimes a whale that is close by can do a tail or pectoral slap and can actually splash our passengers but that's the kind of shower that is fun! Also if you wear a hat be prepared that you may have to hold on to it if you sit outside as we cruise out.


      Is the ocean water rough?

      We do not cruise in to the open ocean areas. The whales congregate in Hervey Bay which has much calmer water as it is given wind protection by Fraser Island. The Spirit Of Hervey Bay is a 24 metre long catamaran and was built with supreme stability, comfort and safety in mind.
