We know our name can be a mouthful, so feel free to call us MOG if you wish. All our friends do!
Fun and friendly is how people describe a visit to MOG. We're proud to say our practice and facilities are state of the art. We travel regularly, both locally and internationally, to ensure that we are up to date with the latest and best in smile enhancing technology.

There are many different types of braces, ranging from the traditional metal braces that most of us are familiar with, to almost invisible clear braces. Let's take a look at some of the more common braces in use today.

Clear or metal fixed braces

Thanks to an innovative new technology using a high-tech wire system that is more comfortable than traditional braces and usually requires fewer adjustments, you won't need to visit us as often during treatment.

The Damon system brackets we use at MOG are available in the traditional metal or fabulous clear 'PCA'. They're so subtle that your friends may not even notice you're undergoing treatment.

Find out more about the Damon System brackets that we use here.

Invisalign:

Invisalign uses clear removable tooth-aligners that gradually move your teeth without braces. To find out a little more about Invisalign appliances click here.

Removable appliances:

Removable appliances are plastic plates that can be used to correct tooth position. They are not suitable for everyone and, in most cases are used for the correction of simple problems.

FAQs

  • What is Orthodontics?

Orthodontics is a specialised area of dentistry, dealing with management and correction of abnormal and irregular teeth, jaws and face. It is therefore a specialty that improves facial appearance and creates great smiles.

  • How long do braces take?

Every person who has ever had their smile enhanced by MOG has asked the same question. How long does it take? Obviously every treatment is different, but on average you would expect to wear braces from 12 to 24 months. After the braces have been removed we recommend wearing retainer plates. The only way to get an accurate answer to the question is to discuss it with an orthodontist. Why not book a free consultation and we'll advise you.

  • At what age should I see a I see an orthodontist?

Everyone is different, but we recommend having an initial orthodontic screening around the age of 8-10. This may seem quite young, but by this stage we are able to highlight potential teeth or jaw problems long before they actually occur.

  • Is it too late for an adult to have braces?

Health, happiness and a confidence boosting smile are important to everyone. You're never too old to wear braces!

  • So anyone can have braces?

you have teeth, you can have braces. Simple as that. When you're wearing braces you're in good company too. Delta Goodrem, Gwen Stefani, Tom Cruise and many other celebrities have braces to thank for their Hollywood smiles.

  • What happens at the first visit?

Your first appointment is all about you. We'll show you around the practice, take a look at your teeth, then chat with you over a coffee about recommended treatment, how long it should take, as well as the cost of treatment and payment options.

  • How do I book an appointment?

It couldn't be easier. Simply email us and we'll contact you to arrange a time that's convenient for you.

  • How much does treatment cost?

Treatment costs vary from person to person based on the treatment required and the appliances that are used to achieve the agreed result. When you visit MOG for a free consultation, your orthodontist will discuss your treatment plan with you and provide you with a written quotation of the fee to undertake the treatment recommended. This fee will include fitting braces, adjustment appointments throughout the term of your treatment, removal of braces, and observation post treatment.

  • How long will my treatment take?

Anywhere between 12 months and 2 years is the typical length of treatment. When you visit MOG for your first consultation we'll tell you how long your treatment should take.

  • Do braces hurt?

Fitting braces does not hurt, however your teeth may be a little tender for a day or two after braces are fitted or adjusted. This is perfectly normal and can be easily controlled with a Panadol or Nurofen.
