Bad breath or (Halitosis) can be managed by controlling the bacteria that produce Sulphur compounds. This may be achieved by a combination of diet and diligent oral hygiene.


When should I take my child to the Dentist for the first time?

Between the age of 9 – 12 months old, for a visual examination.


I am considering tooth whitening – what are my options?

Discolouration can be caused by ageing and lifestyle choices such as coffee, tea, red wine, smoking etc. Options for in-chair whitening by a Hygienist or take-home kits with custom-made trays. Results will vary from person to person.


What are Fissure sealants and why does my child need them?

Fissure seals are a thin coating, applied to adult molars to help protect them from cavities. It is an easy and painless procedure.


My tooth is cracked – what should I do?

If your tooth is broken, chipped or fractured, see your dentist as soon as possible. Otherwise, the tooth could be damaged further or become infected – which may lead to additional treatment or extraction.


What if my tooth gets knocked out?

Locate the tooth and rinse gently in warm water to remove any dirt or debris. Place tooth in milk or patients own saliva and seek immediate dental assistance to try to replace the tooth.


What is a root canal?

Root canal treatment is used to repair and save a badly damaged or infected tooth. It involves removing the pulp from the tooth canal, then clean, disinfect and re-seal the canal.


Why do my gums bleed?

This is usually caused by a build-up of plaque at the gum line; this, in turn, leads to Gingivitis. It is recommended to brush and floss regularly and see your Hygienist every 6 months.


How often should I floss?

You should floss at least once a day to help remove plaque from the areas between your teeth where your toothbrush cannot reach.
