This modern home manages to blend in well with the surrounding Victorian and Edwardian architecture - the innovative and design of contemporary houses has evolved despite the need to adhere to council restrictions.
This contemporary home in the Melbourne suburb of Malvern is situated in the middle of a heritage area, which presented some headaches for architect Darren Naftal and owners Joel and Stacey right from the start. The couple wanted a modern, double-storey home on the small site, but the council is loath to grant approval for contemporary houses in the area, preferring something more in keeping with the Victorian and Edwardian homes that dominate the street.
