While it is not specifically required for building and maintenance services contractors to clean up the mess created during the work, it is an industry standard that they do so. You should not assume they will do it – it always pays to clarify.
Even when you don't do it yourself and you get a building contractor to carry out home renovations or extensions, it can be dangerous. Making sure that your builder insured and qualified not only makes sense, but also is required by the law.
Under the law, builders must meet certain obligations when they engage in any building work, including maintenance services, renovations or any home extensions. These obligations are either called "warranties" under the Domestic Building Contracts Act 1995 or "consumer guarantees" in Australian Consumer Law. These rights cannot be signed away even if you willingly sign a contract that appears to do so.
