What can I expect for the different star ratings for hotels?
Index
Choosing a hotel can be daunting with such a huge range of options available. AAA Tourism, run by Australia’s seven state Auto Clubs (NRMA, RACV, RACQ, RAA, RACT, RAC, AANT), has an internationally recognised star rating system for all types of accommodation in Australia, from houseboat to luxury hotel. The five star rating was designed to make the task of choosing a hotel a little easier for travellers. The five star hotel rating system is determined by the following:
Star Rating
- Five Stars – hotels offering luxury facilities, appointments, services and standards. The hotel must have 24hour room service, secretarial services, valet parking, porterage and housekeeping.
- Four Stars – well-appointed hotels with stylish amenities and en-suites bathrooms, housekeeping, air-conditioning and 16 hour room service.
- Three Stars – accommodation will be well appointed and comfortable, although decor may be slightly dated. The hotel may also provide some business facilities.
- Two Stars – rooms will be basic, clean and reasonably well maintained and probably have en-suite bathrooms.
- One Star – simple clean accommodation with limited facilities and often a shared bathroom.
- Half Star – hotels may also receive an extra half star if facilities exceed the general standard required.
The five star rating system is a valuable tool and gives an excellent indication of the level of services and facilities available, in addition to the cost of a hotel.Check out your state Auto Club’s website for more information or for a complete list of facilities, contact the hotel direct.
