Tips for landscape design
Index
Landscape design can be a very wide and varied undertaking. There are many different aspects to be considered, some of which you may understand more about than others. Here are a few things to consider, but remember that your landscape architect is your best point of reference for concerns regarding your specific landscape ideas.
How much mulch?
While most people do know of the existence of mulch, it can be difficult to know exactly what mulch to use, and how much of it is appropriate. Mulch keeps soil moist and can reduce the need for watering by up to 60 per cent. It also helps with preventing weeds and maintains a constant temperature for the soil. If you use organic mulch, you’re also adding organic material to the soil. Search the Internet or ask your landscaping architect about using mulch and what is optimal for your landscaping environment.
Grass doesn’t only come in one type
There are a whole variety of different types of grass and it’s important to make sure that you have the right kind for your landscaping needs. You’ll need to factor in climate, geographical location, the amount of shade the area receives, what the grass is going to be used for and also the amount of time and effort you are willing to put into maintenance. Do you need a warm season grass that is tolerant to drought? Will you need a grass that’s capable of handling its own sustainability? Will you need one that’s scratchier or softer? One that requires less frequent mowing? You should talk to a landscaping expert or a plant expert at a plant nursery to determine the appropriate grass for your garden.

Water features and electrical landscaping equipment
As trends and fashions have led to the movement of formerly indoor features into the outside environment, there are many weatherproof and waterproof electrical landscaping supplies that are designed for outdoor use. When planning your landscape design, make sure you keep in mind that the area will be exposed to open air, which means rain and wind as well as direct sunlight. Make sure any equipment you choose to use is certified for outdoor use. If you are placing lighting or electrical equipment near water features, such as pools or fountains, make sure they are fully waterproof.
Don’t rush it
The most important piece of advice that could be offered is to take your time. Remember that when planning any piece of landscape design, there is the potential for it to be with you for a very long time. Don’t make any hasty decisions. Make sure every aspect has been planned out properly and don’t move forward with anything until you’ve seen what it would physically look like on the ground.
