Vehicle inspections – the facts
Index
The answer to the question of how long a vehicle inspection takes is like asking how long is a piece of string.
A car check or car inspection may not take long, but an automotive inspection for some other sort of vehicle such as a truck, could take longer. It all depends on the context.
A vehicle check not only depends on the type, condition and age of the vehicle, but it also depends on what aspects of the car need to be inspected. For example, if your inspection is to clear a defect notice, then a repair may need to take place, in which case it may take longer. Also, different states and territories in Australia have different laws and regulations regarding motor vehicle inspection so different areas will need different inspections.
As a result, you cannot really give a straight answer to how long the inspection will take. It could take anywhere from fifteen minutes to a full three hours, or even a day. The best way to determine how long it will take for your car to be inspected is to contact an Approved Inspection Station and explain what services you need, your vehicle and its age and condition, and ask for a quote.
