How can I evaluate the credentials of a training provider?
Index
To be able to deliver accredited training in Australia, an organisation must be a Registered Training Organisation. Registered Training Organisations must meet the requirements of the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA).
RTO Number
When a training organisation is registered with ASQA they are given a RTO number. This will be is a four digit (numerical) number. You can check an RTO’s number by using the national training website, www.training.gov.au.
Quality Standards
Many RTOs meet the quality standards of international bodies such as the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO). If the RTO that you are considering using has met these requirements they display this information on their website and probably on their promotional material as well. Just remember that even though an organisation hasn’t applied for ISO certification doesn’t mean that their product isn’t a quality one.
As with other purchases, you get what you pay for. Training is a product and it should be of a high quality. If the provider you are considering offers it at a rock bottom price in a timeframe that is dramatically shorter than others, then you need to stop and do some investigation into the quality. Ask around as well – word of mouth is very powerful.
