How to choose the perfect wedding venue
Index
Hell hath no fury like an overwhelmed bride-to-be. After all, they don’t call it the "Big Day" for nothing.
The key elements of said Big Day include the following:
- the guest list
- the catering
- beautiful flowers
- cool transport
- the, arghhhhhhhhhh…!
Ok, deep breath. You’ve got this.
Start with the venue. The wedding venue is one of, if not, the most important aspects of your special day. Decide on this and the rest will all fit into place. Really.
So whether you dream of a traditional church ceremony and a reception nearby, or you prefer a simple affair that combines the ceremony and reception in one location, here are our top tips for choosing the perfect wedding venue.
Tip #1. The Guest List
Want to know the secret weapon to nailing your venue? Know your guest list.
Think about grandma and grandpa – will there be somewhere comfy for them to sit? If you plan on inviting kids you might want some activities to keep them occupied.
Will there be folk travelling a long distance to join your celebration? Is there accommodation nearby? Plenty of parking?
Obviously, the more guests you invite, the more the wedding venue needs to offer. Oh, and don’t forget to make sure there are enough toilets for your guests. The only busting anyone should be doing are the moves on the dancefloor at the reception.
TIP #2. Questions you need to ask
When you have your guest list, it’s time for you and your partner to ask some important questions:
- Does the venue cater for the food and drink you want?
- Are there timing restrictions on the use of the venue?
- Are there noise restrictions and rules around live or amplified music?
- Will the venue be hosting any other events at the same time that could impact on yours?
- What are the rules around the provision and service of alcohol?
- Can you decorate the venue yourselves? Are candles allowed?
- Is there plenty of air conditioning to keep everybody comfy?
By considering the above, you will have a much clearer idea of which venues are – and which ones aren’t – suited for your wedding day.
Tip #3. Read the fine print
Finally, knowing what’s hidden in the fine print might be the difference between triumph and disaster.
When you pay the deposit for a wedding venue you’ll be provided with terms and conditions and, preferably, a contract.
Every venue will be different and so will their Ts and Cs. Read them carefully before signing or paying.
And that’s pretty much it. Whether its a barn in a paddock, a marquee on an island paradise or a church in town, finding the perfect venue will set the scene, letting the rest of your decisions to fall seamlessly into place.
So if you’re a bride- or groom-to-be, don’t panic. Take a deep breath, and start searching. You might just find your perfect venue here.
