How is window tinting applied?
Index
When it comes to applying window tint film to your car, there are two ways you can approach it. The first is to let a professional with expert skills do the job and the second is to do it yourself.
If you choose to tackle the job of applying window tint film yourself, patience, preparation, precision and care is what it utmost in achieving a good result. The tools and materials you will need to do the job include: a sharp cutting blade, soapy clean water in a spray container, a rubber squeegee, a ruler or tape measure, and a soft lint-free cloth. Once you have assembled all of the tools you need, you must start with a clean, dust free, wind free environment. The film is always applied to the interior surface of the window. You should first measure the dimension and exact shape of the window and cut the film to match.
Once the window surface is clean (free of dust, grease, smoke etc.) you should spray the window generously with the soapy water solution so as to create a slippery surface upon which the film can be positioned into place. Remove the tint film backing and spray the soapy solution onto the adhesive surface so that the surfaces of both the window and the film are well lubricated. Carefully lay the film onto the surface of the glass starting from the top of the window and work downward, smoothing out any bubbles along the way. You will be able to slide the film around to fit exactly. Once in place, spray the outer surface of the film with the soapy solution and using the rubber squeegee, work over it to remove any bubbles by pushing them to the edge. With a sharp cutting blade, trim the edges of the film to allow a 2cm film-free edge around the glass to allow for thermal expansion.
