Gold Coast Patios And Carports

I had 2 patio roofs installed by Gold Coast Patios. The actual roof workmanship is OK, although the side sections are already sagging (probably due to insufficient rivets) after less than 2 months!

However, the damage, mess and problems caused were unbelievable!

The garden was left in a disgraceful state after the workmen left - they had to dig trenches to run drainpipe water to the storm pipes. Instead of removing all the soil and dirt from the site, they simply tried to dump it under my hedges! They did not attempt to protect the lawn but just dumped the earth all over it so it was full of dirt and stones (making it dangerous to mow). After complaining, they agreed to clear it up but they still left quite an amount hidden, piled against the boundary wall which I had to remove so that the wall was not damaged by dampness. I also spent weeks removing the final stones and polystyrene (wrapping from their products) from the lawn. They also broke the mains water pipe, TWICE!

My automatic watering system was working perfectly before GC PATIO workmen started hacking into it and damaged it in at least 2 places. They just threw away one section that they considered too hard to replace. I had to get them back to fix the obvious damage but it still did not work and I had to spend hundreds of dollars to get it repaired properly.

The salesman told us how wonderful Kwila Posts would look but beware, especially if like me you hire so-called experts to do jobs rather than DIY! Firstly, after it rained, these posts left large dirty brown stains all over my sandstone tiles. When I emailed photos to the owner, Steve Gould, he didn’t even bother to reply. Finally, after complaining once again, somebody from the company came and told me it was normal! – nobody from GC Patios had advised me about this beforehand. I spent nearly 2 hours on my hands and knees with a bleach product and wire wool to remove the stains. I also had to remove concrete stains on the tiles left by their workmen.

Moreover, they didn’t warn me that I would have to oil the posts every 6 months or so – if I had known, I would have opted for the painted metal posts instead of all the cost and effort it will now take me!! Also, be aware of what GC Patios call Kwila posts - I have had some people with connections to the building trade look at one post and they agree with me that it does not look like solid Kwila but lots of bits of timber laminated and glued together then dyed or stained to look like the real thing.

Despite assuring me that they would handle all the electrics, I ended up having to sort this out myself. They initially quoted for some lighting but when the roof sizes changed, they were exceedingly unco-operative, never re-quoted and asked me to deal directly with the electrician!

When I said above that the roofing workmanship was OK, frankly, the job looks rather amateurish -

- the drainpipe on one of the roofs looks like an ugly commercial installation.

- the pink roof fascia shows through. GC Patios must have installed enough roofs to be aware of this eventuality. I would have expected a professional company to have completed the appearance by painting it or at least have advised about it.

After they sent me their final invoice and I wrote to tell them about more problems, they wrote "I’m not certain of what you are after." I replied – “It's very simple - I wrote to the owner in the hope that your service will improve so that future customers do not have to go through what I have experienced. I should not have to keep complaining to get the job done properly. I should not have to spend money to repair things that you have damaged.”

I should add that it is also very stressful having too keep complaining before things get improved (though still not properly fixed) – I would definitely not use them again!
