DISAPPOINTING AND STRESSFUL RENOVATION EXPERIENCE

Some tradespeople make renovations easier; others make the process far more stressful than it needs to be. Unfortunately, my experience with Michel’s Renovations fell into the latter category.

Based on my personal experience with this renovation project, I would not recommend this business. We initially engaged Michel’s Renovations with the expectation that the project would be completed professionally and in line with the agreed design.

While there were elements of workmanship that demonstrated skill, the overall experience was disappointing and at times extremely frustrating.

Communication was a significant issue throughout the project. When questions were asked or clarification was requested, I often felt that my concerns were dismissed. As a woman managing my own renovation project, I did not feel that my input and decisions were always taken seriously.

In an effort to improve communication, I asked my 91-year-old father to speak with him directly, hoping the interaction might be more constructive. Unfortunately, this did not appear to improve the situation and the same difficulties continued.

During the project there were also concerns regarding reliability and accountability. Certain work that had been agreed to was started and later said to be unable to be completed. Other work wasn't even started. Some aspects of the work will require further attention due to placement and execution concerns.

When we raised concerns about the direction the work was taking and indicated that we were unhappy with how the project was proceeding, we hoped to discuss possible solutions. However, we did not feel there was a willingness to work collaboratively to resolve those concerns. Ultimately we made the decision to stop the work and engage another contractor to complete the project.

During the works our mailbox was also damaged and, from my perspective, the matter was not handled with the level of responsibility I expected.

A further concern was that the agreed design brief did not always appear to be followed. Based on what we observed during the project, we were also left with concerns about whether all product installation requirements were followed exactly as specified.

We did attempt to raise concerns during the project in the hope they could be resolved; however, the issues were not addressed in a way that restored confidence in the work.

Renovations rely on clear communication, professionalism, and respect for a client’s vision and property. In my experience, those expectations were not consistently met.

This review reflects my personal experience and honest opinion as a client.
