Scotdesco is a small Aboriginal community situated both sides of Eyre highway 25 km west of Penong. Just off the highway, Scotdesco presents a fantastic opportunity to speak with members of a Wirangu family group who welcome visitors to stop in and chat about this area from an Indigenous perspective.
There are three rock holes near the land; Yangura, Mitcherie and Euria Rock holes. Euria Rock hole is the best known and biggest.
The countryside and surrounds consist mainly of grasslands and Mallee scrub - ideal for hunting wombat (wardu) and sleepy lizard (gulda).
Within the heart of wombat country, Scotdesco offers delicious espresso coffee to travellers and the opportunity to see the big wombat sculpture. Visitors can also explore the art workshop, meet the artists and purchase affordable artwork.
Anytime of the year is a great time to visit this unique community on the Far West Coast so if you are up this way to see the whales then why not stop a while, have a cuppa and meet the locals as well?
