Destroyed my Phone and I've had to Contact Consumer Affairs and Fair Trading

On Tuesday 2nd of January 2024, I requested a quote to have my Google Pixel 6

Pro screen repaired. I was provided two quotes. On the same

day, I entered the physical shop and received the same two quotes face to face, I

requested the premium service priced at $290.00 AUD and I asked if there were to

be any additional fees and was told “No”. I was told the shop need to order the part

which should arrive the following day. I then paid the full price of the repairs up-front.

The following day Wednesday 3rd of January, I entered the store to ask if the shop

had completed the service. The store employee advised me the part had not yet

arrived and he will call me on an alternative number when the part had arrived, and

the service was complete.

On Thursday 4th of January, I entered the store to follow-up, and I was told the part

had now arrived, but the technician had caused some additional damage to my

phones motherboard and my phone was sent away to the technician to be repaired.

I returned the store on Monday 8th of January for an update, I was than told by the

employee that the work had been completed but he was unable to purchase the

original part that he intended to purchase, I asked if they had purchased a cheaper

part and was advised they had not. I was told that the LCD replacement was

completed but the employee was not certain how long the fix would last and that I

may need to return the phone for additional servicing. I was handed my phone and I

immediately noticed that the LCD screen was 10% smaller than the original screen

and that the fingerprint scanner was no longer functioning. I asked the employee why

this is the case and was advised it should begin to function within one week and if

not, I can return to the store and they will rectify the issue.

The following day, Tuesday 9th of January I entered the store to ask if they will fix the

issue with my fingerprint scanner. I was than informed by a different employee who I

believe to be the business owner. That the fingerprint scanner is irreparable and then

proceeded to give a quote of $550 to have it repaired. I than requested an itemised

Invoice of the parts and services brought and completed and was refused but given a

tax invoice/statement; please note, this invoice is incorrectly dated Sunday 07/01/23. I advised the store owner and employee that I was not happy

with the service and will be seeking legal advice. Later the same day, I was called

and sent a text message from one of the store employees saying I should return to

the store, and they will install potentially malicious software which may fix my

fingerprint scanner, I’m unable to provide evidence of this, as my phone is no longer

function. I advised that I’ll consider this and get back to them.

The morning of Friday 12/01/24, my Google Pixel 6 Pro LCD had stopped functioning

completely. That’s when I decided I will need make a formal complaint. As of today

12/01/24, I will return to the store to seek a solution, providing them this letter in

person. I will also send this letter to the business email address and advise them of

this.

As I result, I’m formally requesting that you:

• Provide a full-refund

• Fix the problem at no cost to me

• Compensate me for having the problem fixed at another business

I look forward to hearing from you within the next 10 business days.

If you do not respond within the requested time, I will forward my complaint to

Consumer Affairs and Fair Trading for further advice.
