I have only played two of the courses at the National (Moonah and Ocean) but it is undoubtably the most impressive golf complex in Australia with the Old Course, the Ocean and the Moonah courses - each one of those courses is good enough to stand on its own as great experiences. The rough at the National is incredibly punitive. The members seems to specialise in going up the middle. You need to know someone to get onto this course or join up with a social group. I last played there on the Ocean course with Social Golf Victoria for $115 on February 20 2014. The Ocean course is probably the most beautiful course I have played - truly immaculate greens and fairways and although not as well designed as The Dunes or St Andrews Beach it is just a beautiful place to be. The wind was howling off the ocean (you are only a couple of hundred metres away from the sea in places) and the course got the better of us but we still had a whale of a time. The huge clubhouse is very impressive and very comfortable. PROS - Spectacular holes, immaculate course, screens in carts showing hole and distances (and also warnings if you are detected to be going too slow) , marshall on course, food cart on course CONS - Would be a very long walk if you didnt take a cart
