My experience with Revathi Mohan as the Independent Children’s Lawyer was deeply disappointing and distressing. In my view, she failed to act impartially or in the best interests of my child. She appeared to accept the other party’s version of events without proper scrutiny, while disregarding serious and legitimate concerns that I raised.
Critically, Ms. Mohan failed to recognise that I was a victim of family violence and abuse — despite clear indicators and relevant history. Her lack of insight and failure to advocate for safety and protection has contributed to ongoing trauma. Six years later, the abuse is still playing out through the Family Court system, and her actions — or inactions — have had long-term consequences for both me and my child.
Her failure to appropriately assess the situation misled the court and created a narrative that did not reflect the reality of our lived experience. My child has been emotionally impacted by the decisions made based on flawed or one-sided information, and the lack of genuine advocacy has only deepened the harm.
There was also a conflict of interest that she should have identified. It is her professional responsibility to conduct due diligence and ensure there are no connections that compromise her ability to act independently. Instead, I had to uncover and raise the conflict myself, which ultimately led to her being removed from the case.
This experience has left me with serious concerns about the integrity of the Independent Children’s Lawyer process. I would not recommend Revathi Mohan to any parent or carer seeking fair, unbiased representation of their child’s best interests.
