Proud Mary

I was eager with anticipation when I first came to Proud Mary to try them out for a brunch. It had a big reputation, and after enjoying many of the other big name cafe in the area (3 Bags Full, 7 Seeds, Friends of Mine, etc) I had high expectations. Unfortunately though I think I probably set them a little too high.

I couldnt help but feel the strength here was their food rather than their coffee. We were all very happy with our meals, but when it came to the coffees its fair to say they were not standout coffees at all. Certainly not a standard youd expect at an establishment like this. When I asked for a Ristretto the waiter just stared at me blankly. And after explaining what Ristretto was he eventually came back to serve me a double strength latte instead.
All this said though, its still definitely worth a visit on the cafe hit list.

This place gets absolutely packed on the weekends, I'm talking lines out the door into the street waiting for a table.

I mostly come here for the coffee - the take aways are always great and they sell bags of beans roasted fresh on site. The staff are knowledgeable about the varieties they have on offer and will help recommend the right blend depending on how you drink your coffee.
