We took our 5 year & 2 month old Hyundai Iload van into Kirra Mechanical where they initially diagnosed it with a blown turbo after the vehicle lost power whilst driving on the M1. 3 turbos later (they couldn't figure out why the turbos kept on malfunctioning) they returned the van to us (after 4months of them having it) with a seized engine - blown a main bearing. The owner Matt advised us that after having already paid out $3500 for the repairs to date the cost to now replace the seized engine would be a further $7 to $10K. There was nothing wrong with the engine when we gave them the van!! The van is completely undriveable now. It has since been inspected by another mechanic who specialises in turbo diesel engines and he advised us that its extremely rare for this event (blown main bearing) to occur in such a new car & well serviced engine. The regular services were not done by Kirra Mechanical. He further advised us that one of the likely causes of the main bearing issue is that the engine may have been run without oil in it. This seems a possible scenario given the fact that Kirra Mechanical claim to have removed the sump several times and on the final test drive after replacing the sump they reported to only have driven the vehicle 50 - 100metres up the road before the engine seized. Unfortunately for us Kirra Mechanical have refused to refund any monies outlaid by us for the repairs and refuse to acknowledge any responsibility for the end state of the vehicle which we have now had to write off completely.
