Shocking Customer Service

The experience with Ausmar Homes was nothing short of a nightmare. We initially had high hopes for a smooth home building process with an appealing façade, friendly staff, and even a footy legend on their team. However, our dreams were shattered due to a grave mistake on their part and their subsequent handling of the situation.

We diligently followed Ausmar's instructions, signing our Home Build Contract and paying the required deposit in late December 2022, with a build-start date set for early March 2023. Just one day after this supposed start date, we received a call from Ausmar's GM, claiming that we hadn't signed the contracts, rendering the contract void. We had irrefutable evidence of our signature and payment but were met with resistance and a new contract price, $48,000 more than the original.

A week of frustrating exchanges followed, during which Ausmar refused to admit fault, apologize, or act swiftly. It took them another week to miraculously find their error: a staff member had left the company, and no one had checked their account, so they never received our signed contracts. This led to a demand for an additional $48,000 to rectify their mistake, which was a shocking act of conduct on their part.

To add insult to injury, when we sought a refund of our initial deposit, Ausmar initially proposed deducting $10,197 for "sales commission" from our deposit refund. This was a preposterous move, considering the contract hadn't even reached execution due to their blunder.

After several back-and-forths, we eventually received our $22,000 deposit refund, but Ausmar still held onto three $1,500 deposits paid during the pre-contract phase. They retroactively applied a non-refundable clause to the initial $1,500 deposit, which we had paid a week before the signing of the relevant document. Despite our efforts and even involving the Qld Dept of Fair Trading, Ausmar refused to cooperate.

Finally, after seeking mediation through QCAT, Ausmar's GM agreed to a full refund without admitting fault, seemingly to put an end to the matter because he was 'over it.'

Our experience with Ausmar was characterized by reprehensible treatment, problems not of our making, and the company's attempt to withhold additional funds from us after causing the situation through their internal errors. If you're considering building with Ausmar, I wish you the best of luck, as our experience was a nightmarish journey through their poor customer service and internal processes. Don't be fooled by any cut-and-paste responses; the reality may be far from their promises.
