This is the venue for the most famous horse race in Australia - The Melbourne Cup - held on the first Tuesday in November. Flemington Racecourse is one of the main venues of the Spring Racing Carnival. Flemington is famous for its beautiful flowers (mostly roses). On the following Thursday is ladies' day - The Oaks and on the Saturday is Emirates Stakes Day. I like going to Stakes day as it is slightly less expensive and less formal but still has the wonderful spring racing carnival. It is also much more a family day as there is a large garden area near the entrance that has free rides and activities for children and lots of tables and shade so that you can relax and eat in comfort.
