Sovereign Hill

Its a little bit of drive from Melbourne CBD but Sovereign Hill is certainly worth going to. Weve been there 3 times now with visiting friends and its been just as enjoyable each time.

Sovereign Hill is very maintained and provides a truly realistic snapshot of life in Victoria during the gold rush. With its attention to detail in the buildings and surrounds in addition to the costumed actors they employ, its like youve stepped back in time.
They have entertainment shows from time to time, and unique stores. We dont remember having excellent food there, but it wasnt the food we were there for. The best bit was having the opportunity to pan for gold! Its a fun family activity for the 3 year olds all the way up to the 60 year olds+! Entrance fee is a little high (thats why you get the entertainment book voucher) but the opportunity to bring home your little piece of gold home is magic. We still have some of these little gold pieces displayed in our home. We are sure to make our way there again the very next time we have tourist friends over!
