When I came from Europe to Brisbane, I was looking for a sensei who teaches shotokan karate as I knew it from Europe. I tried a few dojos but Pol sensei is simply the only one who understands all the principles and is able to teach their students properly with the focus on japanese traditions. From my point of view, he is the only option for anybody who truly wants to study shotokan karate in nothern suburbs of Brisbane

Our son has been training with JKA for a number of years now and really enjoys his karate. Sensai Pol is an exceptional teacher and role model for the children. He ensures they learn and understand the traditions of karate and the protocols of the traditional Dojo. I have seen him relate easily with very young children and adults alike, and has an endless supply of patience and positive encouragement. He teaches his students self discipline, respect, resilience . . . all that is karate.

I recently moved to Brisbane from Biloela where I trained with the SKIF. Sensei Pol has been very accomodating with my schedule and is a very skilled practitioner.
Although I have only recently started training at this dojo, I intend to continue doing so because of an atmosphere of discipline and high quality. This dojo is one of the (unfortunately) few that I have seen that hasn't watered down the techniques and still tries to maintain tradition. For that I am very thankful, as I had been quite exhasperated at the very "sport" orientated dojos which seemed to sacrifice technique in lieu of scoring points.
Everyone is very friendly, with many diverse martial arts backgrounds from raw beginner up to 20+ year veterans, all of whom are willing to help you out.
Expect to work hard, and reap the rewards; relatively small class sizes (currently) allow the instructors to give more personal instruction, which I have found very valuable.
All in all, definitely worth a try
