Melbourne fencing and maintenance

I engaged Melbourne Fencing Experts (previously trading as Melbourne Fencing & Maintenance) to install a Colorbond fence at my Glenroy property in 2021. The original quote (QT1167) specified double H4 treated pine 200x50mm sleepers at the base for added strength, rigidity and to hold the dirt in place—this was meant to reinforce the structure due to the sloped block.



Now, only four years later, the fence has completely failed—it has come apart, is leaning, and no longer offers privacy or support. Despite the additional support I paid for, the structure was clearly not built to withstand the conditions it was meant to, and the workmanship has proven extremely poor.



When I contacted the company to have the issue reassessed and asked for a requote for repairs, they completely ignored my second email. Worse still, no other fencing company wants to touch the job because of how badly it was originally done.



They are now trading under a new name (Melbourne Fencing Experts) but it’s the same business, with the same owner and ABN. Don’t be fooled by the rebranding—it’s a name change, not a change in ethics or professionalism.



They also refuse to accept any responsibility and instead make excuses, claiming that soil pressure is to blame, despite them specifically quoting and building the fence with sleepers to hold the soil back. It’s a complete cop-out and goes against what was promised.



I’ve spent thousands trying to fix the damage caused by their shortcuts and am left with a dangerous, unstable fence. Do not use this company. They will do a poor job, make excuses, ignore your attempts to resolve issues, and disappear when their work fails. Beware.

We had a quote done vey promptly but we went 2 days over the few weeks quote period and we were forced to get a new quote which ended up being over a few thousand dollars extra , just for being two days over the deadline. We thought from all the positive reviews that maybe they were worth the extra fees so we went ahead. The side fence was built well vertically, but horizontally it sloped down toward the very far back for the last few metres - which we were surprised to see after it was finished, despite us going out and checking-in with the builders to see if we needed to know how it was going. There was no mention of the slope until it was too late to do anything about it. Then when the back fence was built there was a very prominent slope on that as well. Without any warning or checking to ask if we wanted a slope or a straight top of fence. The builders were hard working and reliable but DiD NOT build what was verbally discussed and did not advise that our back fence would be sloping downward across the top. Nor did they match the height to the side fences which is what we had requested. So if you want a good job done by these people, who clearly seem to build well, make sure you check thoroughly with them how the fence will look once finished & check in them regularly to see how the fence is progressing as they build it. As you might get a sloping fence and it’s too late to do anything about it once it is built.
