I am a serious personal car buyer ready to buy a new car. After seeing some positive reviews online, I popped into Skoda Newcastle on Tuesday afternoon to look at cars. When there, I spoke with Jason and due to time constraints, we agreed that I would return on Thursday for a test drive a demo Scala. Thursday arrived and Jason texted me and asked when I could come in.
I arrived at the agreed time, met with Jason and he informed me that there was another couple who wanted to buy the car. He said to them that he couldn’t sell the car to them as there was someone else booked into test drive the vehicle (me). He gave me an extended sales pitch on the car, and 15 minutes later, I was on my test drive.
I seriously considered buying the vehicle, taking through its paces and checked and tested a bunch of items. When I returned to Skoda, Jason was in the middle of signing paperwork with a couple. Rude!
He had sold the car while I was test driving it.
What an enormous waste of my time!
While I understand that a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush, Jason, the polite thing to have done was to have told me that you were going to sell the vehicle and not have wasted my time. Call me? Text me? Why did you tell me that you turned away the buyers to let me have a test drive, then sell the car anyway without even giving me the opportunity to buy it? With no apology when I returned, you then still played the optimistic salesman saying that you’ve got new stock arriving and you’ve give me a call soon to tee up a test drive. Hah! No way I’m spending my money with you after the way I was treated today. There’s a reason why car salesmen have a bad reputation. My interaction today with Jason at Skoda Newcastle has not done anything to dispel this impression.
