We hired Pat’s Fencing to install a fence and electric gate on our property. What we ended up with was unsafe, substandard, and incredibly disappointing.
Pat used rapid set concrete for the footings — completely unsuitable for this kind of structural work. Within six months, the concrete began to crumble. We’ve since had independent concreter contractors assess it, and they confirmed that the material used was not fit for purpose. Only one footing has been repaired, despite multiple others showing signs of failure. The posts are now unstable, and Pat has denied all responsibility.
The electric gate install was no better. The footing beneath the track has also broken down, causing the gate to shift and the stabilising post to loosen. The motor and battery setup was substandard, and we quickly started experiencing issues. Eventually, the system failed entirely, and we were forced to operate the gate manually.
The most alarming moment came when the gate — which weighs several hundred kilos — slipped off the track while my partner was opening it, holding our newborn. It narrowly missed them. This could have ended in tragedy, and it was entirely avoidable.
Despite being fully aware of the faults, Pat has refused to help or take any responsibility. He has made it clear he will not return to fix the work, even though professionals have verified the poor material choice and construction quality.
Please, if you're considering Pat’s Fencing, think carefully. We’re left with unsafe infrastructure, ongoing repairs, and serious concerns for our family’s safety — all because a contractor refused to stand by his work.
