Recently I ordered 2 x balcony balustrades 850mm wide to be manufactured. On arriving home to install I noticed that the gap width between the horizonal bars appeared a larger width than ordered. I checked AS/NZ Standards which clearly stated width gap between bars is to be no greater than 125mm, however the product width I received was 132mm wide which is not legal according to AS/NZ Standards. Here is a company producing safety balustrades which do not meet AS/NZ Standards. I returned the 2 balustrades to be replaced. A few days later I returned to collect replacements to find that they had produced 2 new balustrades which were 15mm short based on measurement diagram I gave them. Again, these balustrades were of no use due to not meeting the required purpose and safety. Rather than not use the balustrades, I requested the company produce 6 x 15mm extensions with sleeves to complete the original manufacture request. So here I am with no contact from the company. In all my life and dealing with many contractors I have not been so messed around with such a very simple product or service request. The main point of this review is to check dimensions when it comes to safety requirements with regards to balustrades for balconies, swimming pools and any other items which this company produces.

Recently I placed an order with detailed diagram with dimensions with Elmslite Fencing to produce 2 x 850mm balcony balustrade extensions with horizontal bar grill width at 122mm wide to complete my balcony. On collecting these 2 items there where a number of issues which I accepted would do the job anyway. On taking these home I observed that the distance between the horizontal bars grills appeared a little to wide compared to the current balustrade which is where I measured from the start. I checked with AUS/NZ Standards which confirmed the maximum width is to be no more than 125mm wide. On measuring the 2 items the width was 132mm wide, 7mm wider than legal width. In other words these items are illegal and of no use based on AUS/NZ Standards. I then went back to the company to have the 2 balustrades replaced with the legal items. Final point on this issue is I am amazed that a company whom produces safety balustrades for pools or balconies do not comply with AUS/NZ Standards.



On returning the 2 illegal balustrades, I provided another detailed diagram with dimensions with the main change going from 850mm to the new 865mm. At the same time I requested that the previous issues also be changed to reflect the required items as per the detailed drawing from the start. On collecting the replacement balustrades I found that there were no such changes from my original request. Again, I was happy to take these items as is as long as the legal horizontal bar grills are no more than the 125mm wide. On arriving home and about to install the 2 balustrades I found that the replacements had not been extended from the original 850mm to the new drawing of 865mm in length. So here I am still waiting to build my balcony extension. The mistake I made was not to take my measuring tape to ensure the correct 865mm length was done due to the previous issues with the production of these items. However, I do not know of anyone whom has to check dimensions prior to collecting manufactured items.



Rather than have 2 new balustrades produced, I requested that the company provide 6 x 15mm extensions to bring the total length to the requested 865mm.



So here I am, still waiting from a contact from the company. In all my life including 26 years dealing with contractors in the military, this would have to be the most incompetent result for such a simple project.
