Coastal Staircases

We recently had the opportunity to work with Coastal Staircases, to which we chose a floating staircase from their show room. The staircase was to be a showcase in our newly renovated home, instead the staircase quickly became a showcase for all the wrong reasons.



The staircase was paid in full by December 2023, and the quality of the work did not meet our expectations. When some building defects were bought to their attention they always wanted to just touch up or patch mistakes, making most worse in the process with no want to rectify further problems.

One of the original standout features was the design of the staircase, which initially seemed impressive. However, upon closer inspection of our newly built staircase, we noticed several flaws and imperfections that were not addressed properly.



Throughout the process, we experienced communication challenges and a lack of accountability. Changes were made to the design without our knowledge or approval, resulting in a staircase that was poorly positioned in relation to a window, causing issues with privacy and blinds installation. We also discovered various construction mistakes, such as an unsteady step, an unevenly cut second landing, a top step that was out of alignment, holes in the first landing from previous errors that were supposedly fixed and a polished balustrade rod hidden amongst the brushed rods.



Despite our attempts to address these concerns, the company's response has been unsatisfactory. We were met with delays and were initially asked for additional payment to inspect the defects which they denied originally. We only got prompt responses after we provided paperwork from the City of Greater Geelong building inspector (which we obtained easily) to rectify the mistakes made during the construction process.



Overall, we cannot wholeheartedly recommend Coastal Staircases based on our experience. The lack of communication and the negative aspects significantly impacted our satisfaction with the final result. We encourage potential customers to carefully consider their options and thoroughly communicate their expectations before proceeding with this builder.
