What is a filter and Where is it?
Air conditioning systems have a filter to predominantly prevent the dust from your home or business from getting through to the air conditioner. (See above for consequences of not cleaning it) Filters can be a standard washable filter or they can be a disposable filter. For a Ducted system, the filter is generally behind an egg-crate type grille in your ceiling (eg hallway) or sometimes in your wall.
What temperature would you recommend running my air conditioning system at?
Essentially, air conditioning is designed to replicate a comfortable temperature that would be similar to that of a pleasant Spring day (as an example). Most people would consider between 23 – 25°C to be comfortable. Try it somewhere within this range (Heating or Cooling) and if you find it to be slightly cool or warm make only a small adjustment (say 1 – 2°C max). Let it settle at the new temperature for approximately half to an hour and then reassess.
How often should I get a general service on my air conditioner?
For a wall split system, we would recommend having it serviced every two years (approximately) and similar for a ducted system. As a rule of thumb, you would expect that a general service on a wall split type air conditioner will take around a half hour, while a general service on a ducted system would take approximately one hour. Items The following items are usually covered (but not limited to): • Check Refrigerant Levels • Carry out leak detection if necessary, using specialised equipment
Why is my Wall Split system leaking water inside?
The indoor unit produces condensation (or water) during the Summer whilst it is on Cooling mode. This condensation exits the indoor unit via a small drain connected from the indoor unit and runs outside. Should this drain become blocked (i.e., debris, spider webs, mould etc), this will cause the water (condensation) to back up and come through the internal unit. If you are unsure of how to unblock the drain, it would be best to contact a qualified service agent.
Why does my Wall Split system have a funky smell?
This is often caused by operating the unit on “Auto” mode. Based on the actual room temperature versus the temperature you have selected on your remote handset, the unit is deciding itself, if it should be in Cooling mode or Heating mode. The smell often relates to moisture that has settled on the evaporator fan-coil (indoor unit) whilst on Cooling mode. If the unit then switches automatically to Heating mode, the heat is evaporating the moisture thus creating a humid smell.

Should I use a vacuum cleaner to remove the dust from my filter?
We would NOT recommend using a vacuum cleaner for removing the dust because often the suction is too intense for the filter media and will tear holes in the media and will require replacement.
Do I really need to get it serviced or should I just wait until there’s a problem?
Would you wait until there’s a problem with your car before getting it serviced? Like anything with mechanical working parts, it pays to have it serviced regularly to prevent breakdown or other issues when you need it the most. Neglecting to maintain your system can decrease the unit's performance, thus increasing your running costs.

I feel so ripped off! Morphett Air charged me $266 for an hours work locating the problem. After waiting a week to receive a quote for the actual repair I called them inquiring about it. I was then forwarded an unitemised quote for $830 which I found did not cover everything that needed doing. The job was promptly completed within a couple of days by their opposition for less than half the price quoted by Morphett Air. Watch out for these people.....
