From my first point of contact with Kristy and Narelle I was at ease with my decision to have my dental work performed at Nelson Bay Family Dental.

Dr Andrew Huntington I highly recommend for his approach to ensuring you are at ease throughout the entire process for your dental work. You are in good hands when you are with a surgeon who knows what they are doing.

I would NOT recommend Dr Lohan’s clinic. I attended in February with some pain and decay on my top remaining wisdom tooth. Everything went okay during the appointment. They were nice and booked me for an extraction and an OPG X-ray. The issue was after this. I was phoned a couple of days before my booking and informed I needed to be rescheduled. My X-ray + examination showed that I would need all 3 of my wisdom teeth out and also the root that was left 10 years ago when my other top wisdom tooth was removed. This was still okay, except I am not foolish enough to have this done in the chair. I explained to them that I could neither afford it, nor was I willing to have 3 wisdom teeth out plus an attempt to surgically extract an imbedded root that the dentist tried for 1 hour to remove 10 years ago before deciding it was best to leave it in place. I need a general anaesthetic for this. I asked them to send a letter to my GP or to the John hunter hospital explaining what I needed done and why, so that I could get on the waiting list to have the procedure. The receptionist told me they would arrange this and I phoned them 3 times over several months reminding them/requesting this be done ASAP. After all, I have a tooth rotting in my mouth. After the 3rd phone call I was advised Dr Lohan would not be doing the letter. I explained that JHH outpatients will not accept a referral without sufficient detail re: the reason I need to be seen. She said that “we don’t do that”. She offered to speak to my GP by phone and I was informed my GP received a message to call them back. He did phone them back but but the dentist was busy and they said she would phone him back...he never heard from them again. I paid for a checkup and part of a medical professional’s job is to refer on if necessary. This clinic refused to do this and it is totally unacceptable. They were happy to take my money for a quick look in my mouth though. They simply wanted me to book to have this major procedure done with them in the chair at great expense and when I declined to do so as it was not appropriate they refused to help me any further! If you want good service or a dentist with ethics do NOT go to this dentist! It is now August and after giving up, I am finally booked in with NIB dental care who are happy to help me with my referral.
