Good service, and advice at a very fair price.

Difficult to find specialized auto box service these days, but Colin and the crew did an excellent job of service and fault finding. Highly recommended.

Excellent Service and fair pricing

Colin and the guys at AutoBoss got me out of a jam and helped me save a few bucks.



When my Commodore's auto died (not shifting at all from rd geat to 4th), I rang around a little bit and got quoted everywhere from $2,300 to $4,500 for a rebuild.



I rang Colin and he told me to bring it in for a quick checkup, because he thought maybe it needed a flush or the valve body had some dirt in it. He said they would charge $100 to check it out, and would not do any other work on it unless it needed it, and I told them to go ahead. And the $100 would go towards any repairs if I went ahead.



I had to drive it over there pretty carefully. They had it in the shop 2 hours and he told me that it was just a bit of dirt in the alve body. They cleaned it out, replaced the fluid and the gasket. The total cost was $125.



AutoBoss could have told me the transmission was bad, and charged me for a new one. Instead, Colin told me "Look, the tranny's fine. It's a bit old. But I think you will get 100,000 kilometers out of it as it is, so why spend money?"



That was 2 years ago, and 40,000 kilometers ago. The tranny has shifted perfectly since then, and I am grateful for the honesty and them treating me right. I have taken the car to AutoBoss for brakes and oil changes ever since.

Be wary

I took our car to Auto Boss when we had transmission issues, our car was going into limp mode on intermittent basis. Colin had our vehicle for four weeks telling us at times that he was waiting for parts needed to repair our Vehicle, On the 4th week we had to confront Colin to get our Vehicle back asking that he return it on a certain date (after he had promised us on several occasions that we could pick up the vehicle only to inform us on the day that it was not ready).



He did, return it on that date, telling us that he had completed the work and that our Vehicle was in working order charging us in total $2300 (over 2 invoices and 4 weeks). The following day the car broke down in the Melbourne CBD leaving my wife stranded at 11pm.

We contacted a Transmission specialist in Suburban Melbourne and had our vehicle towed there the following day. We received a call from them the following day explaining the issues with our transmission, we were shocked to hear that our transmission had suffered a catastrophic failure that required a complete rebuild.

We explained that we had just had it rebuilt, the reply to that statement included " that's not possible ".



I have decided to write this review in the absence of a final tax invoice from Auto boss detailing the work that Colin had completed.



Colin the Proprietor of Auto boss refused to supply us an Invoice after we had demanded a refund which we received on the second invoice for a total $850.



If we had that final Invoice I would instead be taking legal action to recover the costs of repairing the transmission $4300 as well as the several 000's dollars that we incurred over the four-week period on trains to Melbourne (my wife works in the CBD) and taxis to the train station and home approx. 375.00 per week.



I do not understand why Colin (Auto Boss) had our Vehicle for 4 (four) weeks nor do I understand why he did not complete the work that he insisted he had done, all I can say to you reading is be careful when dealing with Auto Boss and be sure that he has completed the work that you have asked for.

I called Colin as I was trying to assist my disabled Dad with his broken vehicle transmission down in Moe from my place in QLD.

Colin was incredibly helpful and went above and beyond to assist someone in need. I was genuinely surprised that a stranger would be so kind in this day and age.

I would recommend this business due to their outstanding customer service.
