Warning Warning, don't engage with this business

Roof painting: Read the review others have written. James did the same to me. Took most of his contracted money and didn't return to fix and complete this work. I don't want to repeat what others have already said. Please don't trust this business and the owner. I wish there was an option to rate him in minus starts :-(

***WARNING*** DO NOT EMPLOY THE ROOFING GROUP OZ PTY LTD

The Roofing Group Oz Pty Ltd was employed to restore my roof to undertake as per quote completely clean roof free from dirt grime flaking paint moss - change all rusted bolts and tech screws repair and replace all lead work around flutes and chimneys - repair all valleys and rust proof with a K1 70 epoxy resin -apply one coat of rust proof primer and two coats of Colourbond bond paint of your choice of colour and finally one coat of sealer to finish complete contract. All workmanship labour and materials are guaranteed for 10 years from date of completion.

This did not include the garage and deck roof, however whilst the owner was here he offered to do these areas for $1500 cash which I could pay off whenever I had the cash – no pressure.

I mistakenly took this offer.

After hearing of other people’s issues with this company there is now a belief that the owner did not do as per quote – ie no cleaning only banged the roof to make out any bolts or screws had been replaced and certainly did not fix the lead work around the flutes and chimneys as there is still a dripping noise that happens in this area during rain. At the time of quoting, the time line to do the job was 2 days he completed the job in less than one.

There is also a belief that he has intentionally damaged one area above the bathroom where there has been a leak which has caused subsequent mould damage and movement in the ceiling when he banged the roof – in 16 years there has never been an issue in this area.

A few days after the job was done and paid for - overspray was found on a relatively brand new car, casement windows, windowsills on the side of the garage and parts of the railing on the deck. After emailing the owner about this he was extremely apologetic and said he would come out to fix this all. After a couple of messages and no shows it was decided to fix the car myself and in emailing him this he offered to take $200 off the $1500 owing – the overspray on the house is yet to be fixed.

After a phone call from his offsider advising me that the owner had had an accident and fell off a roof In Darwin (at the time of him doing the job he advised he was going to NSW to a job and could be there for a few months) and subsequently broke his wrists. The off sider advised that owners wife had requested to “call in any monies owing”…it was at this time they were informed about the leaks and this was to be fixed before paying the outstanding monies owning. Side note – they have also used having an “accident” with others that have had the misfortune of being scammed by these predators and the off sider goes by two different names.

It was agreed that the offsider would call back in 2 weeks to discuss further as I was extremely ill and did not have the funds on hand. When the off sider called back he told me that two of their team had been out to fix the leak and that he was to come an collect the outstanding monies owing.. This was questioned when, as I work from home and due to the mould exposure was extremely sick had not left the house in over 2 weeks. It was questioned what day and what address they came to - could hear him shuffling papers and then smartly said “your address”. The offsider completely gaslit me and made me out to be a liar.

An email was sent to the owner directly straight away and he replied offered to scrap the outstanding amount of $1300 and that his “partner” will be in touch with 10 days to come and fix the leaks and mould damage. !0 days came and went and after a couple of emails and phone calls not being returned that is when more research on this company was done and have since found bad reviews and further evidence that the owner and his cohort are nothing but deceiving heartless con men. At the time of researching this so call legitimate company, they had heaps of great reviews - including on HiPages…this link is now gone.

Since doing more research it has come to my attention there are at least

Avoid at All Costs – A Warning About James Clark from The Roofing Group Oz

It is no surprise to see other reviews warning about James Clark. From what I have uncovered, this man operates like a transient tradesman. His ABN has been cancelled multiple times, and it is now obvious why.

I engaged James to restore my roof. He claimed he would have it "looking like new". I understood that was likely an exaggeration, but I was not expecting perfection. I simply wanted a professional job. I will attach photos of the quote as proof.

James Clark is not a licensed roofer. He is not registered with the QBCC or any equivalent state authority. The so-called "warranty" he offers is worthless, and his word cannot be trusted.

He arrived on a rainy day, climbed onto the roof, performed a small amount of hammering, and applied a single coat of paint – which, unsurprisingly, did not adhere properly because the roof was still wet from the rain. He originally claimed the job would take two days: the first day for cleaning, repairs, and priming, and the second day for two coats of paint.

Instead, I came home from work to be told the job was complete. There was paint overspray all over my new decking. I had informed him the decking was recently installed and had even left a tarp for protection, which he blatantly ignored. Now the decking must be sanded back and re-stained at my own expense.

Worse still, he did not repair the roof at all. Sections are visibly lifting. I wish I could attach a video to show the extent of the mess. He applied one coat and left. When I confronted him, he promised for over a month that he would return to complete the job or issue a full refund.

He attempted to guilt me for questioning his integrity, spinning long-winded stories about problems with the paint supplier and how he needed to be reimbursed before he could fix anything. The excuses were endless.

He was supposed to return this morning with his brother-in-law Rob (who has also lied). I confirmed their attendance yesterday, but they never showed up. Now both of their phones appear to be disconnected.

I believe he may now be operating in Darwin. If you are located there and reading this, take this as a serious warning. He is personable, well-spoken, and actively seeks out work. He insists on full payment before leaving a job site and will use every excuse imaginable to gain sympathy.

To anyone else who has experienced this, I strongly recommend reporting him to Fair Trading, the QBCC, the ATO (for suspected tax evasion), HiPages (if they have not already removed him), Google, Trustpilot, and ProductReview.

He has taken $7,000 from a single mother and shown no remorse.

Do not trust him. Do not hire him. Stay away.

Poor workmanship

Had the roofing group owner James come out to my house a few months ago to replace all the valleys on my tile roof because they had rusted out and started leaking. I was away for a week working and my wife was home. He Rang me and said he had replaced the valleys and finished the job and wanted full payment that afternoon. I stupidly paid without having a chance to check his work when I checked it I found only the bottom half of the valley had been replaced not the top half and they are still leaking when it rains he left cracked tiles on the roof aswell . I've tried to get him back to fix his work but he will not come back. Be very careful with this company he is not to be trusted . I now have to get someone else come and install new valleys as his ones were cut short.

They did not return to the job after receiving most of the payment for the roof

I am left with a unfinished job after the owner James kept asking me for more money each day, and then before the job was finished wanted a large sum of money on a friday. I said i will give you a decent amount but not the whole as you might not turn up monday. Guess what, he didn't turn up monday and now i'm left with the gutters not painted and touchups not done on the roof.
