Terrace on the Water @The Sanctuary Lakes Club

I played Sanctuary Lakes on June 1, 2014 with 80 players from Social Golf Victoria. It was my first time there. It drizzled all day but we still had an enjoyable time. The course was more well developed than the pictures and video on the web might lead you to believe. It is a links-style course with wide fairways and large bunkers. The rough is thick, well-defined and well maintained. I liked the deep bunkers. The greens had lots of slope but were a little bare and rough in patches although a good speed. The course winds around lakes and the bizarre Sanctuary Lakes housing development which is a fairly soul-less kind of place (big blocky excecutive houses and no sign of life). We played off the white tees and found the course kind of easy. I would rate it about the same as Curlewis but I would prefer a course such as Sunshine or Growling Frog. A marshall kept the groups moving but it was still a slow day due to rain and looking for balls in wet grass. PROS excellent tees and fairways, appealing green designs, shots where you hit over water CONS Green condition could have been better, long walks between some greens and next tee, only one toilet on course, lack of variety of food for lunch (would have preferred smaller options rather than big meals), lack of truly memorable holes that you find at other courses such as The Dunes or St Andrews Beach. Also a lack of clear signage to the golf course on the route in (It is indicated by small signs that say "Recreation Club" - as the golf club is also a gym and a swimming pool.
