Gavin Barwell, the owner and operator has worked in the demolition and asbestos industry for over 25 years.

      Working as a project supervisor in Queensland for 10 of those years, supervising major projects for clients such as the Queensland Government, Watpac, Incitec Pivot, Grain Corp and Schiavellos.       Are our staff qualified to remove asbestos?

      All of our staff hold current asbestos removal licences and have undertaken all required & available training courses in asbestos remediation. All work is completed according to SafeWork SA and strict OH&S guidelines.


      What areas of a house commonly have asbestos?

      Bathrooms, kitchens & toilets built pre 86, but not limited to this year. It was still used after this year.


      What is the difference between bonded and friable asbestos?

      Bonded means bound in a compounding agent such as cement. Friable means it has the potential to be airborne.


      How can I tell, if the job was done right and if my house is safe after the asbestos has been removed?

      If the total area of asbestos is greater than 10M2, this needs to be monitored by a licensed monitoring company. Neighbours need to be notified five days prior and we perform a letter drop in your local area to achieve this. WorkSafe SA regulations must be adhered and a certificate of clearance for the safe removal of asbestos can be provided, if required. After completion, the asbestos reading should not be greater than 00.1 percent.


      How do I identify a load bearing wall?

      If you can see the floor joists, either from the under the house looking up to the first floor or from the roof space looking down to the floor below, note their direction. A load-bearing wall will often be perpendicular to floor joists. If you see a wall that appears to be holding up an intersection of joists at any point, that wall is likely load-bearing as well.


      What was asbestos used for?

      It was used as a fire retardant, used in wet areas and used as heat insulation.


      Can other trades remove asbestos?

      No, they cannot. They have to have an asbestos licence.

      Is having asbestos in our home dangerous for our family?

      Yes, this is often the case; we strongly recommend you do not disturb areas that you suspect may contain asbestos and call a licensed asbestos removal company like Debuild to assist you.

      Gavin and his team were excellent

      We required a full house demolition with 150 square meters of Asbestos in the mix. Gavin was on site quickly and gave us a really competitive quote which covered all that was included and explained the things that were not. ie things that could not be foreseen

      The job went smoothly and the guys were really tidy .
