Had a young guy come out to change a couple of rollers on sliding doors. He was here a little over 30 mins (less than an hour). Received a bill for $250. I asked for a breakdown and got the following:

Service call $95+GST

Travel $30+GST (6mins away on Google Maps)

Rollers $102.27+GST (Local retailer $18.55+GST)

Was also told that the bill needed to be paid by the next business day or they would add late fees to the bill!

I have run my own business with employees for almost 30 years and have never seen this degree of gouging. I don't mind paying a fair price, but charging travel to drive 5 mins on top of a service fee, and over 500% markup on the retail price for rollers is nothing short of dishonest - particularly when they only provide an initial invoice with an all inclusive price. If you can't get anyone else, make sure you get a quote first, as chances are you will pay for it if you don't.
