We engaged IJ Carpentry to complete work on our new home, with the understanding that the job would be finished by Christmas 2025. Admittedly there were some complications late December '25, however all new materials were delivered on site as of 10th January ’26. It is now March 2026, and unfortunately the work remains incomplete.
Initially, the job started well. However, communication soon became extremely difficult. Ivan frequently did not attend the worksite and failed to return numerous phone calls and messages. After repeated attempts to contact him directly, we even asked another carpenter to reach out on our behalf. Only then did he respond.
During his time of absence from our work site, he advised that he was working on another job and promised to return to our site in ‘a couple of days’ when he would be finished on the other work site. These promises were repeatedly not kept. At times he would attend our worksite for only a few hours; other times he did not show up at all without notice after saying that he would be there. This ongoing pattern of poor communication and unreliability was both frustrating and highly unprofessional.
After a final message expressing clear frustration and disappointment, Ivan stated he would return within two days. He did not return at all, and we have since been forced to engage another carpenter to complete the unfinished work.
Based on our experience, we found IJ Carpentry to be unreliable, difficult to communicate with, and repeatedly unable to honour their commitments.
