Stevenson Electrical

Stevenson Electrical was sent to my property to replace a broken fan. It had a remote that turned the light on/off/dimmed as well as the fan on/off, but after 5 years the fan no longer worked on 3 speeds and only operated on one speed. I replaced the fan with the exact same fan I had bought 5 years earlier. I was told that the remote I already had could be reprogrammed with the new fan, so I did not require a new one. When the electrician came to put the new fan up I was not there. The fan I had bought (same model as the original) was replaced and a new remote was programmed to the fan. I was charged for the new remote - $120. Had I bought the remote from the retail outlet with the fan it would have been $80. When I questioned why a working remote that could be reprogrammed needed replacing the electrician became very upset and could not offer a plausible explanation. He told me it wasn't working. So why did it turn the fan/light on and off? Then he told me it wasn't compatible. I pointed out it was the same fan and the remote was generic. He grew even more angry and couldn't believe someone would question him over such a small item. My feeling exactly. Most people wouldn't question such a small item and would have just believed him. And why did his remote cost so much more than the one from the retail outlet? Between this charge he couldn't reasonably explain and how angry he grew when being questioned, I am left with little doubt that he did the wrong thing.
