This father and son enterprise is a High Street, Thornbury favourite. Serving lunch and dinner Wednesday through Sunday as well as breakfast on weekends.
The dinner menu, a concise list of perfectly cooked, hearty pastas, is supplemented by a rotation of specials including lamb cutlets, barramundi and veal cotoletta. For dessert the cinnamon panacotta with mandarin and pistachio praline is a not to be missed.
Breakfast has all the usual suspects, but with a twist, such as eggs fried over capsicum served with home-made baked beans and creamy rosemary parmesan rosti.
Service is friendly and relaxed, but still efficient. Umbertos is a popular destination, so book ahead.
