We left my daughter's $1,500 laptop with Dr Joes for repair. He kept it for months under the pretext that he was "looking for parts". When we decided that he had held onto the machine for way too long without hearing from him, we tried to retrieve it but he had lost it. Not only did he lose it, but when we requested compensation he went silent and refused to discuss it. I ended up having to lodge a formal complaint with NSW Fair Trading.
Dr Joe provides no receipt when you drop off your machine - his way of identifying which machine belongs to which customer is to write the customer’s first name on a strip of adhesive tape, which is then stuck on the machine. This doesn't work because he sometimes neglects to do it (when he searched for our laptop there were a number of machines with no identifier on them) and of course it doesn't work with common first names.
Consider your options before leaving your machine at this place.

Beware! We left my daughter's $1,500 laptop with this guy for repair. He kept it for months under the pretext that he was "looking for parts". When we decided that he had held onto the machine for way too long without any results, we were unable to get it back because the guy had lost it. Not only did he lose it, but when we requested compensation he went silent and refused to offer compensation or even discuss it. When I lodged a formal complaint with NSW Fair Trading he made an elaborate lie to get himself off the hook.
The shop itself is an absolute mess and it isn't surprising he can't keep track of things. He provides no receipt when you drop off your machine - his way of identifying which machine belongs to which customer is to write the customer’s first name on a strip of adhesive tape, which is then stuck on the machine. But, unfortunately he seems to forget to do that sometimes and even when he remembers, bad luck if you have a common name, like, say, Michael.
Take your business elsewhere is my advice.
