There are many different ways a burglar can get into your house if they really want to, however it is estimated that more than 30% of burglars enter through the front door. Insurance companies obviously know this and they will reduce your home and contents insurance premiums if you upgrade your door and window security with appropriately rated security measures and devices.
You can upgrade your door security by:
- Replacing all external hollow-core doors with solid doors – this will go a long way to preventing forced entry.
- Adding new dead bolts and locks to your doors and windows – lock all accessible doors and windows.
- Ensuring that door jambs are solid and in good condition – good locks are no use with a low quality frame.
- Moving hinges to the insides of the door – many burglars gain access by simply removing the hinge pins from a door.
- Investing in an approved security screen door for externally accessible doors – allows you to screen visitors in safety and provides an obvious security presence.
Lower the cost of your home insurance and raise your own security and peace of mind by upgrading your external doors.
