Getting your jewellery valued
Index
There are lots of reasons to get your jewellery valued. Here are some of them:
- Insurance,
- For sale or auction,
- Divorce settlements,
- Deceased estates,
- Capital gains,
- Probate,
- … just good old fashioned curiosity.
It’s important to note that a valuation certificate will be issued according to the reason for the assessment, as values differ from case to case. But whatever the reasons why you want your family jewels valued, use an experienced jeweller who is a member of the National Council of Jewellery Valuers to do the assessment and issue a valuation certificate.
Professional Jewellery Valuers must be trained in gemmology and gemstone grading and be experienced in valuing all types of jewellery – including diamonds, engagement rings, wedding rings, gold, and precious stones.
They use the latest scientific testing equipment and procedures and are able to detect synthetic gemstones. Some jewellers may also be a qualified Graduate Diamond Grader through the Gemological Institute of America.
