This easy-to-make jewellery cleaner uses simple ingredients you’ll find in your pantry at home. Rather than relying on harsh cleansers, this recipe harnesses the power of science.
A natural chemical reaction called an “ion transfer” is created when you combine aluminium foil with salt and baking soda which naturally cleans metals.
It’s fun, it’s easy and it’s science. What more do you need for a good night in?
Here’s what you’ll need:
- A small bowl
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 1 tablespoon bi-carb soda
- 1 teaspoon dishwashing liquid
- 1 cup hot water
- Aluminium foil
- 1 old toothbrush
- Paper towel
- Soft cloth for polishing
Step one
Line the bowl with aluminium foil.
Step two
Add the salt, bi-carb and dishwashing liquid. Add the hot water and watch it fizz.
Step three
Drop your jewellery into the bowl. Let it sit for 10 minutes.
Step five
Remove your jewellry and use the toothbrush to gently scrub around any nooks and crannies. Rinse, pat dry and polish with a soft cloth.
